Unit Summary
In this unit pupils will represent numbers 6 - 10 by partitioning in different ways. They will learn what odd and even numbers are and how they can be partitioned. They will identify a missing part when a whole is partitioned into two parts where one of the parts is known.

You will learn to skip count in odds and even numbers.
Key Notes
- Skip count using a number line alongside representations of numbers and explain what is the same.
- When you count in odds or evens you count in jumps of two.
- Numbers that can be made out of pairs are even numbers. Numbers that cannot be made out of pairs are odd numbers.
- Odd and even numbers alternate. Between two odd numbers is an even number and between two even numbers is an odd number.
Vocabulary To Learn
- Pairs: Two together. Often with something in common.
- Skip count: Counting forwards or backwards by a number other than 1.
- Odd: Any number that cannot be divided exactly by 2. The last digit is 1, 3, 5, 7 or 9.
- Even: Any number that can be divided exactly by 2. The last digit is 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8.
Common Mistakes To Avoid
- Children may be so familiar with counting in ones that they might find it hard to count in twos.
