Year 1 - Science
Human body parts
This unit focuses on identifying, naming, and labelling the basic parts of the human body, linking each part to its associated sense. It emphasises closely observing using simple equipment, classifying findings, gathering and recording data, and using observations to suggest answers to questions.
You will learn to explain that humans are animals that belong to the group called mammals.
Animals are living things that need food, water and air to stay alive. Animals that have similar features can be grouped together.
An animal is a living thing which moves and eats other animals or plants. Include the word in a full scientific explanation, not as a single label.
Mistake: Children may not realise that humans are animals. Correction: Clear explanation that humans are a type of animal.
