Year 10 - French
People and lifestyle: Ma carrière
This unit consolidates modal verbs in the present tense and introduces the conditional with vouloir in the context of career plans. There is also an extensive focus on word pattern rules, introducing new rules for the formation of adverbs from adjectives and adding in- or im- to mean 'opposite of'.
You will learn to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of jobs, adapting words to different parts of speech and to create opposite meaning.
Pre-rehearsal, focusing on range of language and accuracy of pronunciation, improves performance in speaking tasks. Being able to apply word patterns, such as creating antonyms or adverbs from adjectives, expands our vocabulary.
word that describes a verb or an adjective. Say or write it in a short sentence so you use the word actively.
Mistake: To create antonyms in French, always add the prefix in- to the start of an adjective or adverb e.g. 'utile' becomes 'inutile'. Correction: Some antonyms are formed by adding the prefix im-. This is when the original word begins with p, b or m: possible become impossible; buvable (drinkable) becomes imbuvable (undrinkable); 'mature' becomes 'immature'.
