Year 10 - Maths
Rounding, estimation and bounds
This unit explores the impact of upper and lower bounds on additive and multiplicative calculations.
You will learn to use your knowledge of rounding, estimation and bounds to solve problems.
Rounding and estimation are practical maths skills. Sometimes you will need to apply common sense to rounding in context.
The lower bound for a rounded number is the smallest value that the number could have taken prior to being rounded. Use this word when showing your method, then check your final answer is reasonable.
Mistake: Truncating the numbers rather than rounding when considering the suitable degree of accuracy. Correction: Emphasise that the numbers are being rounded and therefore the digit in the next decimal place must be considered.
