Year 11 - English
Poetry anthology (Assessment until summer 2026)
In this unit, pupis read and analyse four poems from the Eduqas poetry anthology. Pupils complete two lessons about each poem: one on understanding and one on analysis. At the end of the unit, pupils analyse themes from across the anthology and practise crafting a sophisticated comparative essay.
You will learn to rewrite an extended response, using suggested improvements.
An excellent analytical response is clear, nuanced and concise. A nuanced response acknowledges and explores the shades of meaning within the text.
acknowledging the subtle shades of meaning within something.
Mistake: Students often think that once they have written a response, it is the finished product. Correction: The first draft is simply a first attempt - improvements can always be made and the second draft is always stronger.
