Year 11 - English
Poetry anthology (Assessment from summer 2027)
In this unit, pupis read and analyse four poems from the Eduqas poetry anthology. Pupils complete two lessons about each poem: one on understanding and one on analysis. At the end of the unit, pupils analyse themes from across the anthology and practise crafting a sophisticated comparative essay.
You will learn to plan an extended comparative response.
One way to help you organise poems in an anthology is to sort them into 'mini-clusters' by theme. When you're approaching a comparative question, begin by identifying the key theme.
a subject or topic of discourse or of artistic representation.
Mistake: While comparing poems, you should only look for similarities between them. Correction: To create an effective comparison, you want to find nuanced differences within overall similarities.
