Year 11 - Geography
Global patterns of energy resources
This unit, comprising of three variants, teaches pupils about global inequalities in food, water and energy production and consumption. Pupils learn about resource security and about sustainable futures.
You will learn to explain reasons for increasing energy consumption and factors that affect energy supply.
Energy consumption is increasing due to economic development and technology. Energy consumption is increasing due to population increase.
the growth of a country's wealth, leading to better jobs, higher incomes and improved living standards.
Mistake: Rising demand for energy is simply down to the world's growing population. Correction: This is one reason for the growing demand for energy, but economic development is another factor that affects demand. As people become richer, their consumption of energy increases, e.g. instead of using bicycles for transport, people use mopeds.
