Nos preparamos: plural reflexive verbs, possessive adjectives and pronouns

My personal world: relaciones

Unit Summary

This unit introduces new forms of possessive adjectives as a post-verbal complement, and new forms of possessive pronouns with agreement for gender and number for singular and plural possessors. Pupils also learn the reflexive use of plural forms of pronouns including with a reciprocal function.

Lesson Summary

You will learn to use plural reflexive verbs, possessive adjectives and pronouns in the context of daily life.

Key Notes

  • Reflexive verbs have the same subject and object.
  • To conjugate plural reflexive verbs, place the pronouns 'nos', 'os' and 'se' before verbs with the corresponding ending.
  • Possessive adjectives show who something belongs to and possessive pronouns replace possessive adjectives + nouns.
  • The possessive adjectives 'mío', 'tuyo' and 'suyo' can follow 'ser' to show belonging to, e.g. 'la bolsa es mía'.
  • To form possessive pronouns, use the definite article before 'mío', 'suyo' or 'tuyo', based on gender and number.

Vocabulary To Learn

  • reflexive: describes an action where the subject and object of the verb are the same
  • reflexive pronoun: used to indicate doing something to yourself, words like 'myself' and 'yourself'
  • possessive adjective: shows who something belongs to
  • possessive pronoun: replaces a possessive adjective and a noun

Common Mistakes To Avoid

  • Verbs must always have different subjects and objects.

describes an action where the subject and object of the verb are the same. Say or write it in a short sentence so you use the word actively.

3. Correct this common language-learning mistake.

Mistake: Verbs must always have different subjects and objects. Correction: Verbs do not always have different subjects and objects. For example, reflexive verbs have the same subject and object.
