Year 2 - English
Atinuke and other authors: information text
In this unit, pupils write an information text in three paragraphs about the author Atinuke. Pupils use research as a starting point to write their texts, which will include an introduction, a paragraph about her childhood and a paragraph about her jobs and books.
You will learn to create a plan to support you when writing a section of an information text about an author.
The subheading 'Jobs and books' tells the reader what the section will be about. The plan should include any other jobs the author had and their journey to becoming an author in chronological order.
a framework that writers create before they write a section or whole text.
Mistake: Children may find it difficult to incorporate linguistic features that highlight chronology in their plan. Correction: Highlight the use of 'after education' and 'eventually' in the model notes on slide 17 as examples of language that support in communicating the chronology of the author's career. Ask the children to brainstorm other examples.
