Humorous poetry
In this unit, pupils read and respond to a variety of humorous poems by different poets. They will learn about the poets, explore the meaning and themes within each poem and identify the poetic devices used. Pupils will practise reading each poem aloud with expression to convey meaning.
You will learn to give a personal response to the poem and read it aloud.
Home Time is a poem about the end of the school day. Home Time is a poem written from the perspective of the classroom clock.

Mistake: Pupils may think that a poem cannot be written from the perspective of an object that isn't alive. Correction: Teach pupils that personification is a fun and imaginative poetic technique to know and use.
