Year 2 - Geography
What is life like in London?
This unit explores the capital cities of London and Cardiff through their landmarks, transport, rivers and green spaces. Pupils describe key physical and human features and plan a day out using maps, images and simple route planning.
You will learn to explain how to travel to London, describe the landmarks you would like to visit on a day out and how to plan a route around them, using maps and geographical vocabulary.
There are many different ways to travel to London such as long distance trains, or national and international flights. Travel guides can help you decide where you want to go when you are visiting a new place, like London.
To travel is to make a journey from one place to another.
Mistake: Pupils are still developing understanding of the concept of quantifying time and as such they can significantly overestimate how much they can do and see in just one day. Correction: Remind pupils to think about all the things that we have to do around visiting attractions, how long will it take to get to an attraction, what type of transport is best to take, what about time for meal breaks.
