Year 3 - Spanish
Me and others: 'ser' for traits
This unit introduces singular persons of 'ser', a second verb to be, being for permanent traits. Pupils use this verb to describe what they are like generally, and to say where they are from. They also learn to say what day of the week it is using 'es', the third person singular of 'ser'.
You will learn to understand and identify the correct day when people ask and answer about what day of the week it is.
The sound-symbol correspondences [ca] [co] [cu] can be practised with the source words 'cama', 'contar', 'cultura'. 'Es' is part of the verb 'ser' and means 'she, he, it is' or 'is' and is used to say what day of the week it is.
pronounced as in 'cama'. Say or write it in a short sentence so you use the word actively.
Mistake: Spanish days of the week start with a capital letter as in English. Correction: Spanish does not capitalise the days of the week.
