Year 4 - English
'Greenling': reading
In this unit, pupils read and explore the picturebook text, 'Greenling'. They will learn about the features of a fable and explore characterisation in the text. Pupils will develop an understanding of 'rewilding' and identify and engage in the key themes of community and sustainability.
You will learn to explain a personal response to the text.
There are many themes that are explored in 'Greenling' including change and transformation, sustainability & rewilding. Reading around a text can deepen our understanding of significant themes and ideas in a text.
A theme is a big idea, topic or message that recurs within a story.
Mistake: Pupils may find thinking of connections between 'Greenling' and the rewilding non-fiction text challenging. Correction: Model making connections aloud, focusing on character, setting and plot. Some pupils may benefit from printed double-page spreads of certain illustrations to support.
