Year 4 - English
Poetry inspired by weather
In this unit, pupils read, respond to and perform four different poems associated with weather. They discuss the poetic devices used and explore structure and imagery. Finally, they write their own poems inspired by the weather.
You will learn to identify a range of poetic devices.
Poets can use a range of poetic devices to enhance the meaning or impact of their poems. Personification is describing a non-living thing as if it is a person.
describing a non-living thing as if it is a person.
Mistake: Pupils may confuse a metaphor with a simile. Correction: Explain that both metaphors and similes are ways of using language to compare. Metaphors compare by saying something 'is' somthing else, whilst similes use the word 'as' or 'like'. There are no similes in this poem.
