Year 5 - Maths
Understand hundredths as parts of a whole and represent
In this unit pupils will identify hundredths as part of a whole and describe and represent hundredths as a decimal fraction. They will compare and order decimal numbers with hundredths.
You will learn to identify hundredths as part of a whole.
The whole is divided into one hundred equal parts and one of them is one hundredth of the whole. There are 100 hundredths in one whole.
Exactly the same amount or value. Use this word when showing your method, then check your final answer is reasonable.
Mistake: Pupils may only attribute one hundredth to an area model being broken into one hundred equal parts. Correction: Ensure pupils see one hundredth in both linear and cardinal examples too.
