In this unit pupils will explain what area is and measure using counting as a strategy. They will make different shapes with the same area and compare the area of different shapes.
You will learn to use understanding of area and counting strategies to solve problems involving area.
The units of counting area must be the same if you want to compare the areas of different shapes. The units of area should be squares.
The measurement of a flat surface. It measures 2D space. Use this word when showing your method, then check your final answer is reasonable.
Mistake: Inaccuracy when drawing can mean pupils fail to correctly answer questions relating to drawing area. Correction: Access to tools such as visualisers allows the teacher to model drawing lines with great accuracy, using the gridlines to guide.
