This unit explores the properties of everyday materials, including hardness, solubility, and conductivity. It covers reversible changes like dissolving and mixing, and irreversible changes such as burning. Emphasis is on scientific enquiries, data recording, and presenting findings with evidence.
You will learn to plan to investigate the physical property of thermal insulation.
Different materials have different physical properties. A thermal insulator is a material that does not allow heat to pass through easily.
A material is the substance that objects are made from such as wood, metal or plastic. Include the word in a full scientific explanation, not as a single label.
Mistake: Children may think that thermal insulators only keep things warm. Correction: Task A specifically addresses this misconception. Children will have opportunities to investigate which cup has the best thermal insulation properties for keeping drinks cold in lesson 5 of this unit.
