Year 6 - Design and technology
Cams: automata
This unit develops pupils' knowledge of mechanisms through cams. Pupils will develop knowledge of the properties of wood and apply this by selecting suitable materials for functionality. Knowledge of wood construction and joining techniques are introduced and applied through making an automaton.
You will learn to draw cross-section diagrams.
A cross-section diagram shows the inside of something. Cross section diagrams are usually vertical or horizontal planes.
the inside view of a 3D object when cut straight through.
Mistake: All cross-section diagrams show the vertical plane. Correction: Cross-sections diagrams can show the horizontal or vertical planes and these can provide very different views.
