Changing circuits
This unit explores how circuit components like lamps and buzzers function, including the effect of cell number and voltage. It covers using symbols in circuit diagrams, planning scientific enquiries, taking precise measurements, recording data, and presenting findings with evidence and conclusions.
You will learn to explain the difference between electrical conductors and insulators and can identify where each type of material should be used.
An electrical conductor is a material that allows electricity to pass through it easily. An electrical insulator is a material that does not allow electricity to pass through it easily.
Electricity is needed for lighting, heating and making machines and appliances work. Include the word in a full scientific explanation, not as a single label.
Mistake: Only metals are electrical conductors. All non-metals are electrical insulators. Correction: Pupils will be taught that some non-metals are poor insulators, for example, water, as it can contain dissolved minerals that act as electrical conductors.
