Year 7 - Design and technology
Prototypes with mechanisms: robotics and automation
Pupils will model with paper and boards and learn about sources and stock forms. They will develop 3D computer-aided design knowledge and skills, applying this by designing and simulating mechanical systems using TinkerCAD.
You will learn to prepare and transfer a file for laser cutting.
Laser cutters use concentrated beams of light to cut or engrave materials, requiring precise vector files. Designs must be lowered through the Tinkercad workplane before exporting.
computer-aided manufacturing.
Mistake: Laser cutters burn or melt the materials they are cutting. Correction: Laser cutters actually vaporise the material with high precision.
