Actions towards others: Malala, singular -er verbs with preposition 'à'

Activities: singular verbs in the present tense

Unit Summary

In this unit, pupils revisit the verb faire, with meanings other than 'do' or 'make'. Pupils use singular forms of -er verbs with new high frequency vocabulary to talk about activities. They use two-verb structures with 'aimer' and practise the sound spelling links ch, ç, ai, oi, -tion and -ien.

Lesson Summary

You will learn to use your knowledge of vocabulary, cognates and the present tense to understand a French presentation about Malala Yousafzai.

Key Notes

  • [ien] sounds like 'bien'
  • The simple present tense singular endings are -e with 'je, -es with 'tu' and -e' with il/elle
  • Use à after to penser to say 'think about' something/someone.
  • Use 'penser que' (think that) to give opinions in French. 'Que' always follows even if we would miss it out in English.

Vocabulary To Learn

  • ien: pronounced as in 'bien'
  • preposition: a word that is used before a noun, a noun phrase, or a pronoun, connecting it to another word

Common Mistakes To Avoid

  • It is possible to leave 'que' out in French like it is in English.
