Year 7 - German
Christmas: singular and plural nouns
This unit introduces pupils to 4 rules for forming plural nouns in German and provides opportunities for practice with the use of 'es gibt'. It will also teach pupils how to use plurals with 'sein' 3rd person plural, and 'sie' meaning 'they'. They practise sound-symbol correspondence [ü] and [ä].
You will learn to ask and answer questions in speaking and writing about more than one thing, and build your own sentences from known vocabulary.
[äu] is an important sound symbol correspondence, used often in noun plurals; for example, 'Häuser'. 'Wie viele ...?' means 'How many ...?'.
pronounced [äu] as in 'Mäuse'. Say or write it in a short sentence so you use the word actively.
Mistake: All plurals are formed in the same way. Correction: Nouns have different rules for plurals depending on their gender and spelling.
