Year 7 - Maths
Plotting coordinates
In this unit pupils revisit and further develop their understanding of the coordinate plane, and learn how to plot non-integer coordinates. Pupils then plot from an equation both by hand and by using technology.
You will learn to plot coordinates in the first quadrant.
Coordinates can be plotted in the first quadrant. Shapes can be described using coordinates.
A quadrant is any one of the four areas into which a space is divided by the $$x$$ and $$y$$ axes. Use this word when showing your method, then check your final answer is reasonable.
Mistake: Confusion between which is which out of (1,4) and (4,1). Is it up and along? Along and up? Correction: Clarity of language helps. Coordinates are written x, then y coordinate. Move first in the x-direction. There are no 'corridors and stairs'.
