Year 7 - Science
Solid, liquid, gas states and changes of state
This unit covers the properties of solids, liquids, and gases using the particle model, including gas pressure. It explains changes of state in terms of the particle model while developing skills in using appropriate techniques, apparatus, and materials in lab work.
You will learn to measure the melting point and freezing point of a substance.
When it melts, a substance changes from the solid state to the liquid state. When it freezes, a substance changes from the liquid state to the solid state.
Substances in the liquid state will take the shape of their container. Include the word in a full scientific explanation, not as a single label.
Mistake: Some pupils can't understand that substances can change from one state to another state. Correction: Ensure that the language used is solid state, liquid state and gas state, not solid, liquid and gas.
