Year 8 - French
New places: modal verbs, aller + infinitive, negation
In this unit, pupils consolidate their knowledge of modal verbs devoir, vouloir, pouvoir and savoir in the present tense singular forms. They also revisit aller with infinitive to express future intention and revisit question formation and negation in two-verb structures.
You will learn to use the verb 'aller' to describe places you go to and am going to go to.
[ain/in] sounds like 'train'. [aim/im] sounds like 'faim'. These sound-symbol correspondences have the same sound. 'Aller' means to go/going, an irregular verb used with infinitives to give future plans.
sound-symbol correspondence (SSC) pronounced as in 'faim'. Say or write it in a short sentence so you use the word actively.
Mistake: Use one preposition for 'in' like in English. Correction: There are a number of prepositions for 'in', depending on the number and gender of the noun. Use 'en' for feminine countries, à for cities, au with masculine nouns, à la with feminine nouns and aux with plural nouns and countries.
