Year 9 - Design and technology
Developments in new materials: supporting new parents
In this unit, pupils will develop knowledge of smart and modern materials and apply this to designing a product to support new parents. They will develop strategies for generating ideas by investigating a specific context.
You will learn to present and explain your final developed design idea.
Designers reflect on design journeys to learn from what worked and what didn't, including failures and setbacks. Designers justify design decisions throughout the design journey, showing how these led to the final design outcome.
completed version of a design.
Mistake: When your final design has already been decided, it is a waste of time reflecting back on the design journey. Correction: Even though the final design may be decided, reflection is not about changing the outcome, it's about understanding how you got there, what you learned, and how you can improve in the future.
