Year 9 - French
Everyday life: subject and object pronouns, present tense
In this unit, pupils revisit subject and object pronouns, practising them with present and perfect tenses. Subject pronouns are used to mean 'it' and 'they, and object pronouns to mean 'me' 'you' and 'him, her and it' placed before the verb.
You will learn to understand and say how much something costs in French using the verb 'payer', numbers 70-99 and the direct object pronoun 'it' in the context of shopping.
In French the SSC (sound-symbol correspondence) [th] makes a t sound, as in 'théâtre'. Soixante-dix is 70, quatre-vingts is 80, quatre-vingt-dix is 90 and cent is one hundred.
SSC (sound symbol correspondence) pronounced as in 'thé'. Say or write it in a short sentence so you use the word actively.
Mistake: Numbers 70, 80 and 90 are one word numbers in French, just like 20 (vingt), 30 (trente), 40 (quarante) etc. Correction: In French, the numbers 70 (soixante-dix), 80 (quatre-vingts), and 90 (quatre-vingt-dix) are not single-word numbers. Unlike 20 (vingt), 30 (trente), and 40 (quarante)—which are single words—70, 80, and 90 are constructed using compound expressions.
