Year 9 - Physical education
Invasion games: adapt tactics and strategies through Gaelic football
This unit explores ways to adapt skills, tactics and strategies from football, rugby and handball to Gaelic football. Pupils will learn how to transfer skills of running with the ball, kicking and tackling plus new skills like fisting and soloing as they experience a game that will be new to most.
You will learn to execute a variety of kicks and catch with confidence.
Move: a punt kick involves striking the ball with the instep to ensure accuracy. Move: tracking the ball early and cushioning the ball ensures it can be passed quickly after catching.
the most common foot passing technique by dropping the ball onto the foot to kick before it hits the ground.
Mistake: Kicks may lack the necessary power or accuracy, or they might often miss their target. High catches can be intimidating and pupils may mistime their jump. Correction: Focus on good technique before increasing distance or adding movements to kicks. When performing a high catch, track the ball early and use the jumping technique to meet the ball when it is at its highest point.
