Year 9 - Physical education
Net and wall games: understand effective performance in badminton
This unit will provide pupils with the opportunity to show commitment to developing their badminton skills further in both singles and doubles play. Pupils will also refine their skills at officiating, analysing performance and organising a fair competition.
You will learn to move well to cover the court with agility, coordination and spatial awareness.
Move: pre-loading your legs with a split step speeds up reactions. Move: lunging requires big steps and an explosive push back to the centre of the court.
a small explosive movement which enables you to change direction quickly.
Mistake: Pupils wait until their opponent hits the shuttle before starting to initiate movement to retrieve it. Correction: If you wait until you know where the shuttle is going before starting to move, you will often be too late to get to it. Instead, pre-load your legs with a split step to trigger an explosive lunge to reach the shuttle faster.
