Year 1 - Design and technology
Rotary mechanisms: windmills
This unit introduces knowledge of simple rotary mechanisms that create movement. Pupils will investigate how windmills work, consider sail design, and produce a working model that will be tested for stability and movement.
You will learn to describe rotary motion.
Rotary motion is where something is turned (rotated). Water wells get water from deep underground.
something that turns around in circles.
Mistake: Rotary motion always produces electricity. Correction: Rotary motion can be designed to lift objects, grind objects or produce electricity.
