Year 1 - Design and technology
Rotary mechanisms: windmills
This unit introduces knowledge of simple rotary mechanisms that create movement. Pupils will investigate how windmills work, consider sail design, and produce a working model that will be tested for stability and movement.
You will learn to describe how wind is useful.
Windmills have sails or blades which turn. Windmills use wind to produce electricity or pump water.
something that turns around in circles.
Mistake: Windmills create wind, rather than being moved by it. Correction: The wind pushes the windmill's blades to make them turn.
