Year 1 - English
Writing lower case letters in print
In this unit, pupils learn to sit comfortably and hold a pencil correctly. They learn handwriting patterns to help with letter formation and how to form all 26 lowercase letters in print. Finally, pupils practise forming letters in different letter families, for example ascenders and descenders.
You will learn to form the letters b and p.
The letter b has an ascender. The letter p has a descender.
the part of a letter that extends above the level of the top of an "x".
Mistake: Children can become confused about which of the tramlines to start and end b and p on. Correction: Explicit naming of the start and end points and modelling of this.
