Year 1 - English
Writing lower case letters in print
In this unit, pupils learn to sit comfortably and hold a pencil correctly. They learn handwriting patterns to help with letter formation and how to form all 26 lowercase letters in print. Finally, pupils practise forming letters in different letter families, for example ascenders and descenders.
You will learn to form the letters h and k.
The letters h and k are tall letters. The letters h and k are formed by "going down, up and over".
letters that reach up high and are usually taller than the other letters in the alphabet.
Mistake: Children will often want to take their pencil off the page for the letter k. Correction: Emphasis should be placed on 'keep your pencil on the page' when modelling this letter.
