3D Design
This is a teacher led unit which introduces to pupils to the skills within their endorsements. Through a series of workshop activities, students experiment with a range of materials and techniques. They develop a range of studies exploring mark making media, print and mixed media.
You will learn to explore and apply surface decoration techniques on clay, linking them to a chosen theme.
Carving into the surface of a leather hard piece to create designs, often reveals a contrasting colour underneath. Scoring the surfaces of clay pieces and applying slip (liquid clay) helps to bond them when joining.
the outside of a clay form that can be carved, built up, stamped, or moulded to add texture and meaning.
Mistake: Surface decoration should be added at the end and doesn't need much thought. Correction: Surface design should be planned and integrated to reflect and enhance the sculptural idea.
