Energy of moving particles
This unit covers energy changes in systems due to heating, forces, and electrical work. It explains reducing energy transfer via insulation, specific heat capacity, and latent heat. Emphasis is on calculations, planning experiments, data interpretation, and evaluating methods.
You will learn to explain how to carry out a fair test to investigate insulators.
In a fair test, only the independent variable is changed so that no other changes could affect the results. The variables that are deliberately kept the same are called control variables.
These are done to find a baseline set of results to which others can be compared. Include the word in a full scientific explanation, not as a single label.
Mistake: Heat is a substance that flows through an insulator. Correction: Always refer to it being particle vibrations that are passed on through a material and do not refer to heat moving.
