Year 11 - Physical education
Dance: movie moves
This unit utilises a stylistic approach that introduces both a wider movement vocabulary and demonstrates the value of dance as an important social construct; crossing time, cultures and emphasising relevance as a lifelong activity for positive physical, emotional and social health.
You will learn to both lead and respond to your partner when performing the Jive.
Move: partner jumps, cues and counterbalances are key elements of the Jive dance style. Think: leading when improvising as a pair requires quick and decisive decision making.
to assist, to bear all or part of the effort.
Mistake: Counterbalances are always symmetrical. Correction: Counterbalances can involve the same action as a partner but these can be varied by level, direction of size. Counterbalances can also use contrasting body parts to connect, e.g. the hand of one dancer pressing against the shoulder of their partner.
