Year 2 - English
Performance poetry
In this unit, pupils read, respond to and perform a variety of poems by different poets. They will watch the poets perform their own poems and learn from them about what makes an effective performance. Finally, pupils will practise different skills to perform each poem effectively to an audience.
You will learn to explore and perform a poem.
James Carter is a poet and he loves words. 'A Ticket to Kalamazoo!' is a fun poem about going on an imaginary adventure.
a person who writes poetry.
Mistake: Pupils may be nervous to perform in front of the class. Correction: Pupils can work in pairs or in small groups to perform the poem. You could teach the lesson across two lessons and provide pupils with more time to practise their performances.
