Year 2 - English
Performance poetry
In this unit, pupils read, respond to and perform a variety of poems by different poets. They will watch the poets perform their own poems and learn from them about what makes an effective performance. Finally, pupils will practise different skills to perform each poem effectively to an audience.
You will learn to perform a poem about emotions.
'Say How You Feel' is a poem that explores different emotions. Each verse describes a different emotion using vivid imagery, metaphors and similes.
strong feelings - like love, or anger.
Mistake: Pupils may try to vary their voice so much that it makes them difficult to hear e.g. speaking too quickly or too quietly. Correction: Explain to the pupils that while we are trying to convey emotions through our voice, we also need to maintain a loud enough and clear enough volume for the audience to hear us. Model doing this well and not so well.
