Year 4 - Maths
Review of fractions
In this unit pupils will identify equal parts when they do not look the same related to equivalence. They will construct a whole when given a part and the number of parts.
You will learn to identify equal parts when they do not look the same.
Equal parts of the same-sized whole may not look the same - they can be different shapes. A whole can be made from equal-sized parts that are different shapes.
We say that two or more things are equal if they have the same quantity or value. Use this word when showing your method, then check your final answer is reasonable.
Mistake: Children might think that parts are unequal just because they look different. Correction: If you cut the shapes out, do they take up the same amount of space?
