Year 4 - Maths
Properties of 2D and 3D shapes and symmetry
In this unit pupils will complete and compose symmetrical shapes from two congruent shapes and investigate lines of symmetry in 2D shapes.
You will learn to identify different types of triangles and describe their properties.
All triangles have 3 straight sides and 3 vertices. Equilateral triangles have 3 equal sides and 3 equal angles.
Equilateral triangles have 3 equal sides and 3 equal angles. Use this word when showing your method, then check your final answer is reasonable.
Mistake: Some children may find it harder to recognise the type of triangle when they are drawn in different positions and orientations. Correction: Allow time for children to manipulate the triangles so that they can see them in different orientations and build their understanding of the properties of each type of triangle.
