Year 5 - Computing
Flat-file databases
This unit looks at how a flat-file database can be used to organise data. Pupils will use tools to order and answer questions about data. They will create graphs and charts from their data to solve problems. They will use a real-life database to answer a question, and present their work to others.
You will learn to navigate and sort data in a computer-based database using different views.
Data can be stored in fields. Flat-file databases can display information in different ways.
a category of data in each record. Add one real device or system example to prove understanding.
Mistake: You must look through every record individually to find an answer. Correction: Sorting a computer database by fields allows you to quickly find answers without checking each record one at a time.
