Combining fabrics: accessible textiles
This unit develops pupils' knowledge and 3D joining techniques when working with woven fabrics. Accessible design is introduced by investigating the work of fashion designers. Pupils apply this knowledge and understanding to make and promote an accessible product.
You will learn to sew seams and a curved edge.
Practice seams can be sewn on scrap fabric. Seams need to have allowance which is extra fabric, usually 15mm.

Mistake: Curved seams require different stitches to straight seams. Correction: The same stitches can be used on a curved edge as those used on a straight seam.
