Year 5 - Spanish
Describe things and events: 'es'
In this unit, pupils learn the numbers 16-31 and the months. Using numbers, months and days pupils ask and answer questions about birthdays and dates of other events. They practise the new vocabulary through listening, reading, speaking and writing to secure the knowledge.
You will learn to say when your birthday is and ask others about their birthday.
The definite article 'el' can be used to mean 'on the' with birthdays. It is not used for today's date. To ask someone's birthday, we use the question ¿Cuándo es tu cumpleaños?
masculine definite article 'the', also meaning on the when used with specific dates. Say or write it in a short sentence so you use the word actively.
Mistake: To say what the date is, you always use the definite article 'the' as in English. Correction: In Spanish, the definite article is used with specific dates, like birthdays. Unlike in English, 'the' is not used for today's date.
