Unit Summary

In this unit, pupils learn the numbers 16-31 and the months. Using numbers, months and days pupils ask and answer questions about birthdays and dates of other events. They practise the new vocabulary through listening, reading, speaking and writing to secure the knowledge.

You will learn to understand dates made by combining numbers and months.

Key Notes

  • The Spanish vowels [a], [e], [o] are strong vowels. When they appear next to each other, they are pronounced separately.
  • Numbers 16-19 use 'dieci-' + the numbers 6, 7, 8 or 9, all in one word.
  • Numbers 21-29 use 'veinti-' and a number from 1-9, all in one word.
  • Numbers 31-39 use 'treinta' + 'y' + a number from 1-9, in three separate words.
  • Many months are cognates. Unlike in English, they start with lowercase letters, unless at the start of a sentence.
