Year 5 - Spanish
What I and others have: singular and plural 'tener'
In this unit pupils use previously taught and newly learnt forms of 'tener' in the contexts of school, home and physical description. They synthesise familiar and new language for the purpose of describing a friend. For this they learn new carefully selected high frequency vocabulary.
You will learn to say what's on your desk using 'detrás de', 'debajo de' and 'en'.
[z] is always followed by [a], [o] or [u]; [z] sounds the same as [c] in front of [e] and [i]. 'Tener' means to have, having; to say 'they have', use 'tienen', to say 'we have' use 'tenemos'.
part of the verb 'tener' meaning 'to have, having', meaning 'we have'. Say or write it in a short sentence so you use the word actively.
Mistake: In Spanish, the words 'detrás' (behind) and 'debajo' (under) are used in the same way as in English, followed directly by an article and noun. Correction: In Spanish, 'detrás' (behind) and 'debajo' (under) are folowed by 'de' in Spanish and then the article and the noun; used like this, they are known as prepositional phrases.
