Year 6 - Geography
Global trade: how do we get our stuff?
This unit explores global trade and how goods are produced, transported and consumed around the world. Pupils investigate imports, exports, supply chains and the role of ethical trading in shaping how we access everyday items.
You will learn to investigate the production of a mobile phone and describe some of the effects the manufacturing process has on people's lives.
Electronic devices have complex global supply chains. The availability of natural resources, workers and transportation costs influence the location of manufacturing.
A supply chain is all of the stages involved in producing goods, transporting them and selling them to customers.
Mistake: All the parts of a mobile phone come from one country. Correction: The raw materials which go into making phones come from all around the world.
