Year 6 - Maths
Ratio and proportion
In this unit pupils will describe the relationship between two factors, representing the relationship in different ways. They will build to using a ratio grid to calculate unknown values.
You can explain how to use multiplication and division to calculate unknown values with two variables.
Bar models can represent unequal sharing or many to many sharing. Representations show the relationship between the two variables.
Use many to many to describe ratios where each value is more than one. Use this word when showing your method, then check your final answer is reasonable.
Mistake: Using addition and subtraction rather than multiplication and division to solve problems. Correction: Continue to model the use of the language and notation of multiplication to calculate missing values.
