Year 7 - Design and technology
Communication
Pupils will develop knowledge and skills of communication, including freehand 3D sketching using the crating technique. They will learn how to render to show texture and tone. They will also learn how to draw using more formal techniques, such as one-point perspective and orthographic projection.
You will learn to render a 3D sketch to show the light source and effect.
Adding tone with shading to a drawing can enhance the 3D effect. Adding shadow to 3D drawings can enhance the effect.
to add details like shading, texture and depth to a sketch to make it appear more realistic.
Mistake: When rendering the light source, location might not be correctly identified. Correction: Start with real objects and a light source to help students visualise where the shadow and highlight would be. Get students to label where the light source is.
