Principles of materials and manufacturing
Pupils will handle, shape and join sheet materials using different manufacturing processes. They will test and experiment with different mechanical fixing methods and adhesives and then use this knowledge to explain which choices are suitable and why.
You will learn to select the most appropriate materials using properties and chooser charts.
The purpose, environment and user of a product determine the material properties required. The product properties required determines the material chosen.

Mistake: There is only one suitable material for each product. Correction: There are many different materials which can be suitable once a choice has been made; it is important to explain and justify this.
