Year 7 - Design and technology
Principles of materials and manufacturing
Pupils will handle, shape and join sheet materials using different manufacturing processes. They will test and experiment with different mechanical fixing methods and adhesives and then use this knowledge to explain which choices are suitable and why.
You will learn to identify and use reforming manufacturing processes.
Reforming materials changes the shape and the state. Injection moulding is a reforming process for polymers.
changing the material shape and state.
Mistake: Reforming is the same as deforming. Correction: Reforming changes the state AND the shape; solid, liquid and back to solid. Deforming only changes the shape; the materials always remain a solid.
